Dental care and prophylaxis is an important part of our veterinary preventative care regimen. If left untreated, diseases of the oral cavity are painful and can contribute to other local or systemic diseases. Regular dental examinations and prophylaxis are vital to maintaining your pet’s health.
Unsurprisingly, many pets are hesitant to allow a full and complete examination of their oral cavity when awake! Therefore, many times the true dental pathology can only be fully assessed once your pet is sedated or anesthetized. Our veterinarians can contact you if this occurs to discuss if any other procedures are indicated during the prophylaxis treatment.
At home care is also an integral aspect of preventative care. Here at South Park Animal Hospital we recommend products that have been evaluated by the Veterinary Oral Health Council (VOHC) for effectiveness.
